Sew-In & Weave Guide

Weave Hair Length Chart

Explore sew-in, quick weave, and track weave hair lengths from 10 inches to 30 inches across straight, body wave, deep wave, and kinky curly textures.

Weave hair lengths represent manufacturer stretched strand measurements. Finished resting length depends on braid pattern foundation, track height, and curl pattern.

How Weave Texture Affects Visible Hang Length

Why a 22-inch curly weave looks different from a 22-inch straight weave.

Bone Straight Weave
0% (100% Hang)

Maximum visible hang. Length lands exactly at its stated measurement. Sleek and reflective.

Body Wave Weave
~10% to 15% Contraction

S-shaped voluptuous waves. An 18″ body wave sits around 16″ visual resting length until heat straightened.

Deep Wave / Water Wave
~25% to 35% Contraction

Tight, defined ripples with high beachy volume. A 22″ deep wave bundle visually rests around mid-back (18″).

Kinky Curly / Afro Weave
~40% to 55%+ Contraction

Tight corkscrew coils that expand in width. A 24″ kinky curly weave may visually rest near shoulder/armpit level.

Weave Length FAQ

How is hair bundle length measured by manufacturers?

Raw and virgin hair bundles are measured by stretching the hair fibers straight and measuring from the weft track stitching to the longest tips. Because bundles naturally taper toward the ends, the stated length represents the maximum stretched strand length.

What does 20-inch bundle hair mean?

A 20-inch bundle contains hair wefts where the longest strands measure 20 inches (50.8 cm) when pulled straight. When sewn in starting at the bottom nape, it will generally hang near the lower mid-back on average frames.

What is the difference between 18-inch and 24-inch bundles?

An 18-inch bundle measures 45.72 cm (mid-back), while a 24-inch bundle measures 60.96 cm (natural waist). Additionally, because longer bundles have longer individual strands, each standard 100-gram bundle has a shorter total weft width, meaning you typically need 4 bundles of 24″ compared to 3 bundles of 18″ for a full install.

Does curly or deep wave bundle hair look shorter after install?

Yes. Deep wave, water wave, and kinky curly bundles experience significant curl shrinkage. An 18-inch deep wave bundle will typically have a visible resting hang similar to a 14-inch to 16-inch straight bundle until straightened or pulled taut.

How is weave hair length measured for sew-ins and quick weaves?

Weave hair follows the standard industry method: measured taut along the longest strand from the sewn track. For layered sew-ins, stylists often recommend tiered bundle combinations (e.g. 18″, 20″, 22″) so the hair flows with natural graduation.

Does installation method affect the final visible hair length of a weave?

Yes. A sew-in track placed low at the nape will fall several inches lower down your back than the same bundle length sewn near the crown. Stylists use this natural head curvature to create fullness and dimension.
